Tutorial: How to Make a TeePee
Tutorial
1. Pick out your fabric and get 4 wooden poles. I purchased 6 yds and 8" from JoAnn fabrics. I had my husband cut down 4, 62" long wooden poles at his office but you can get them at Home Depot.
2. Lay out all your fabric and keep it folded in half(shown in picture). I placed measuring tape next to it marked at 50" and folded the fabric up & over and repeated that until I had 4 50" layers.
3. Cut the end creases. This creates 4 folded in half pieces of fabric for the 4 sides of the TeePee.
4. Cut a diagonal line through your fabric. I did two folded pieces at a time. I only used the folded side portion of the fabric and saved the rest for other projects.
5. Cut off the top of the triangle. I used a ruler and made it 2" across the top, so when I opened it up I had 4" total. Then, I made a small cut across the bottom to even everything out.
6. Tear the fabric to make slots for the wooden poles. I took the remaining fabric and tore 4, 5" x 51" pieces of fabric.
Final measurements after making final cuts to even everything out:
4 sides of the TeePee:
4" across the top
49" along both sides
42" along the bottom
4 slots for the wooden poles:
5" wide
51" long
7. Iron all your fabric.
8. Sew all your pieces together using a sewing machine.
9. Take your wooden poles and drill a hole 4" down from the top. Pull twin through and secure all the poles together.
10. Slide the wooden poles through your fabric slots.
11. Cut a slit down the center of one side. I made a couple stitches at the top of the slit to keep it from tearing.
12. Use liquid stitch to keep fabric from fraying.
